Another jubilant Caps Night was had by all at the High Tide Porthcawl on Sat. 20th. Sept.

Many thanks to James Marks for organising this very special evening once again and also to the High Tide for their continued support to Surf Lifesaving Wales.

After a very good meal and a welcome introduction by the President Mr Peter Lake, an enjoyable evening commenced.

Mr Pat Thomas Vice/ Chairman presented Certificates of Appreciation too many Members for their contribution to their Clubs and SLSA Wales.

Special Presentations were given to Nick Thomas and James Longdon for being part of the GB Team in setting a New World Record in the Rope Rescue Relay at the World Championships 2008.

Also to Craig Robinson for Winning Two Gold medals and becoming World Masters Champion in both the Iron Man and Surf Swim. Quite a remarkable performance and well deserved after so many years of hard training and dedication. Craig had an exceptional evening as he also was honoured in becoming SLSA Wales Surf Lifesaver of the Year 2008.

Mr.Mike Allen Chairman of Youth Development gave a short report of the Nipper Activities 2008 and then presented the Nipper Club of the Year Shield to Mr Phil Rees of Cold Knap who were voted as this years Shield Winners.

A Special Inshore Rescue Boat Award was presented by Chris Parry to a young new IRB crew member Rhys (Capt.Meech) Meecham who gave 100% to the IRB Commission this season.

Final Presentations went to our Junior and Senior Welsh International Team Members who have once again been unstoppable throughout the UK and Europe. Winning both the Celtic Cup Challenge, Sponsored by Corus and also winning the Nivia Cup Championships in Germany.

With many of the Team members representing SLSA GB at the World Championships, SLSA Wales have once again set the bench mark and raised standards to a degree which we would never have believed possible a few years ago.

Congratulations were given to all team members on what was nothing short of a magnificent team effort, also to Senior Team Managers Leigh Worth and Pat Thomas.  Junior Team Managers Shian Rosewell and Sophie James.

All in all, a truly great evening of celebrations was had by all concerned. We would like to thank all members, Mums, Dads and Families for their support not only for the Presentation Evening but also their support throughout the year.

Pete Lake President SLSA Wales.
