Welcome to Surf Life Saving in Wales and thank you for taking an interest in Inshore Rescue Boats (IRB).
The IRB is the fastest and most manoeuvrable piece of rescue equipment utilised by surf lifesavers. The IRB is very versatile in being able to effect rescues and transport the patient back to shore very quickly. It can support large numbers of people in times of mass rescue, or provide roving patrols over distances of 5-10km to allow surf lifesavers to monitor large stretches of beach in between the recognised patrolled bathing areas.
Twice a year, at the start and end of the summer season (see diary for location and exact dates), SLSA Wales hold a training and examinations weekend. These are a must for members new to IRBs', covering all the skills and techniques necessary for the safe and effective use of this rescue craft.
Further courses are available on request to the IRB Commission, as are fee-paying courses for Local Councils and Private Companies using rescue craft or safety boats.
