February 1st - Important changes to Welsh Championships and Welsh Teams The following changes will be introduced for the Ocean Championships in 2010, with the aim of creating better competition and also to improve the overall standard of Welsh competitors.

1. Competitors will compete under the following age groups:

Under 14 (Under 13 and Under 14 will now compete under one age group)

Under 16 (Under 15 and Under 16 will now compete under one age group)

Under 19 (Remains the same as previous years)

2. Previously the Welsh Selectors have selected 4 competitors from each sex and age group. The Team will be increased to 6 competitors from each sex and age group from 2010. The aim is to encourage more competitors to attend ranking events, and therefore increase the competition for Welsh caps.

3. The Celtic Cup and Youth Challenge will from 2010 be held on the same date and venue. Under-19 competitors selected for both the Youth and Senior teams, will have to choose which team they would like to represent, as they will no longer be able to compete for both teams.

January 24th - New rules on Swimming Costumes (with effect from 1st January 2010).  Following a competition commission meeting, it was decided S.LS.A. Wales would comply with the new swimming costume changes. The new rules aim to ban swim suits that give an "unfair advantage" to swimmers. This can be from buoyancy or muscle support. The new rule also bans suits extending beyond the shoulder or the ankle (so no sleeves or feet). These rules came into effect on 1st January 2010.

The competitor must only wear one swimsuit, in one or two pieces which:

1. For men (boys) shall not extend above the navel or below the knee or (i.e. NO body suits at all)

2. For women (girls) shall not cover the neck, extend past the shoulder, nor shall extend below the knee.

3. All swimsuits shall be made of textile materials.  (This has yet to be defined but is taken to mean porous - no more rubber or part rubber suits and no Zips).

4. All swimsuits must be listed on FINA's List of Approved Swimsuits on the day of competition and worn without modification
